Burnham-On-Sea
rescue group celebrates its 15th year
A
Burnham-On-Sea rescue charity is this week celebrating its 15th
year of life-saving with an open day to mark the milestone.
BARB,
the organisation behind Burnham's two life-saving hovercrafts,
was formed in 1992 and initially operated two lifeboats which
carried out more
than 140 rescues.
The
charity now operates two hovercrafts, The Spirit Of Lelaina and
The Light Of Elizabeth, plus an inshore rescue boat.
BARB
Chairman Mark Newman said: "BARB has helped and rescued many
people over the last 15 years and this event celebrates the milestone,
but we're not just looking back."
"BARB
is moving forward and growing all the time and we would invite
anyone who would like to join us - whether as crew or fundraisers
- to come along this Sunday and be a part of BARB's next 15 years."
The
event gets underway from 10am-3pm at the group's seafront station
in Burnham on Sunday August 26th. Visitors will be able to see
the group's two hovercrafts up close, hear more about the charity's
work and pick up beach safety advice.
