Fifth
anniversary of Lelaina tragedy to be marked at hovercraft open
day
The
fifth anniversary of the tragic death of young Lelaina Hall on
mudflats near Burnham-On-Sea is to be marked this week with a
special open day at the rescue charity whose hovercraft is named
after her.
BARB,
the organisation that runs Burnham's two life-saving hovercrafts,
is holding the special event this Saturday (June 23rd) - five
years to the day since young Lelaina died after becoming trapped
in mud at Berrow.
The
tragedy led to a huge fundraising campaign by The Western Daily
Press to raise £110,000 towards the purchase of a new
rescue hovercraft, which was aptly named 'The Spirit Of Lelaina'.
This
week, BARB will hold the special Open Day to let visitors see
the craft up close, meet its crew and pick up beach and sea safety
awareness information.
The
event will be held from 11am-4pm on Saturday June 23rd at BARB's
seafront headquarters in Burnham.
