Fifth
anniversary of Lelaina tragedy marked at hovercraft open day
The
fifth anniversary of the tragic death of young Lelaina Hall on
mudflats near Burnham-On-Sea was marked with a special open day
at the rescue charity whose hovercraft is named after her on Saturday
(June 23rd).
Over
200 visitors came to the seafront station of BARB - the charity
which runs Burnham's hovercrafts - to pick up beach safety advice
and hear more about the work of the organisation five years to
the day since the five-year-old lost her life at Berrow.
Caroline
Hall, mother of Lelaina, and her family also visited the hovercraft
station during Saturday's event and were taken on a flight along
the coast in The Spirit Of Lelaina, as pictured here.
Caroline
said afterwards: "The anniversary is very sad for us every
year, but it helps us to see the good things that have come out
of this tragedy."
"It's
wonderful to go out on the hovercraft and see the enthusiasm and
dedication shown by its crew - it's comforting to be here."
Visitors
got a chance to discuss beach safety with BARB's crewmembers and
also see the organisation's second hovercraft, named 'The Light
of Elizabeth' after Lelaina's sister.
