Burnham
rescuers
come to the aid of ambulance stranded in soft sand

Rescuers
in Burnham-On-Sea came to the aid of an ambulance crew on Sunday
afternoon (April 13th) when their vehicle became stuck in soft
sand on the town's beach.
Burnham-based
rescue charity BARB was alerted at 1.30pm after the wheels of
a Wessex Ambulance Service vehicle sank into the sand while its
crew provided first aid cover during the town's annual Aquathon
beach race.
BARB
used its tractor to pull the stranded vehicle onto the hard sand
where it was able to safely leave the beach. Fortunately, the
tide was out at the time so the vehicle was not in any immediate
risk.
Wessex
Ambulance made a donation to BARB after Sunday's incident and
driver Godfrey Horler said: "We are very grateful for the
assistance of the BARB team."
BARB
has helped rescue many people and vehicles from the sand and mud
in recent years. BARB
runs two hovercrafts and a rescue boat on a 24-hour basis along
Somerset's coastline.
