BARB, the group that runs Burnham's hovercraft, is appealing for new crew members and shore helpers to come forward to help with the life-saving service. Volunteers are needed to get involved with all aspects of the operation - from maintenance of the craft to fundraising and even piloting the craft itself. Full training is available to those who come forward. Alan Miller, BARB's chairman, said: "We are expecting another busy year ahead of us and need to have as many staff from the Burnham area available to ensure we can react to any emergency or call-out." He added: "So whether you're 18 or 80 and can give us as little as half an hour a week or even 60 hours a week, we'd like to hear from you. A busy rescue service like this requires a large team of volunteers of all interests and abilities." To get involved, come down to the Burnham-On-Sea hovercraft station, situated next to the tourist information centre on the seafront, any Wednesday evening between 7.30pm and 9pm or call Alan Miller on 07711 824703.
