Brean
holidaymakers raise over £1,700 for Burnham hovercraft group

Generous
Brean holidaymakers have raised more than £1,700 towards
the charity that runs Burnham's two rescue hovercrafts after a
busy summer of fundraising.
Mike
and Caroline Walsh of Pontypool organised a series of events including
a raffle, sponsored head-shaving session and charity evening at
the Beachcomber Inn in Brean in aid of BARB, the charity that
runs the hovercraft rescue service.
"We're
delighted that a huge sum of £1,724.56 has been raised and
thank everyone who's supported us over the last few weeks,"
said Caroline.
"The
hovercraft team do a superb job and it's wonderful to see all
the money raised being put to good use locally. We've been coming
to Brean for many years and frequently see the valuable work that
BARB does."
BARB
President Neville Jones - who is pictured receiving a cheque from
the fundraisers at the Beachcomber Inn - said: "We're incredibly
grateful for this huge sum which will go directly towards maintaining
our two craft and training our crews. Mike and Caroline have put
in a great deal of effort over the last six weeks, which we greatly
appreciate."
Caroline
also thanked her friend, Dot Howe, for helping to collect money
and raffle prizes for the event.
