Burnham
hovercraft scores with Bristol
City fundraising
tie-up
Burnham-On-Sea's
Spirit of Lelaina hovercraft has scored a winner after being selected
to be Bristol City's official charity for the new football season.
Bosses
at Ashton Gate will be hoping to raise as much money as possible
during a series of collections at the ground to help fund the
craft's vital life-saving work along the Somerset coastline.
The
Robins are doing their bit to help contribute towards the hovercraft's
annual £20,000 running costs by collecting donations at
three home games during the 2005-2006 football season.
Collectors
will appear for the first time at the August 27 game against MK
Dons, then again at the December 28 match with Rotherham, and
their final appearance will be at the April 29 game against local
rivals Swindon Town.
Colin
Sexstone, Bristol City's chief executive (pictured), explained
why the club is throwing its support behind the hovercraft: "We
support local charities and always have a chosen cause each year.
This is one we feel is very worthwhile. It is something we can
really get behind.
"We are very strong in Somerset and are very pleased to help.
It is a very worthy group and we will do all we can to help raise
money for it and suspect our fans will, too."
Mark Newman, press officer at BARB, the charity that runs the
hovercraft, said: "We are over the moon that Bristol City
has come forward and will be raising money for us this season.
"This
means a great deal to us. Every penny that goes into the collecting
buckets will be used to help save lives along our coastline."
