Easter
fundraiser raises egg-cellent amount for Burnham hovercraft

An
egg-cellent £500 was raised for Burnham-On-Sea's hovercraft
group when fun-loving holidaymakers at a Brean caravan park held
their annual Easter bonnet parade at the weekend.
The
popular event was well supported by more than 30 families at Diamond
Farm, who turned out in a colourful range of bonnets of all shapes,
sizes and colours.
Run
by the Diamond Farm Charity Fundraising Committee, organiser Pam
Johnson said the Easter Day event had been "a big success"
and she was delighted with the amount raised for BARB, the organisation
which runs Burnham's two rescue hovercrafts.
"We're
thrilled to bits to have got this year's fundraising drive for
BARB off to such a strong start," she told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
"We
all had a great deal of fun while raising money for such a worthwhile
cause. The wonderful sunny weather was certainly very kind to
us."
Chocolate
Easter eggs were handed over to the youngsters with the best bonnets,
as judged by hovercraft crew members Andy Croker and Dave Bailey,
who are pictured with several of the entrants.
Dave
said: "All the entrants in both the children's and adult's
categories had put in such a great amount of effort that it was
difficult for us to pick the winners given the high standards.
It was a fun afternoon and we're very grateful to everyone for
the amount raised."
The
funds raised came from entry fees, a raffle and a collection at
several Brean pubs over the Easter weekend. Diamond
Farm raised £2,938 for BARB last year and has another busy
summer of events lined up for the next few months to try and help
with the ongoing running costs of the life-saving hovercraft rescue
service.
