Hovercraft
crew perform demonstration at town's VE/VJ event
The
Spirit Of Lelaina hovercraft and a smaller, second trial craft
took part in the group's first ever grass demonstration during
a special event marking the 60th anniversaries of VE/VJ-Day and
the 65th anniversary of the Battle Of Britain.
The
two craft performed
search and rescue exercises in front of large crowds at Burnham's
BASC Ground on Sunday September 18th.
The
crew onboard the smaller craft showed how accurate the vehicle
is by wending their way around obstacles on the pitch.
An
orange flare was then released by pilot Simon Triggol onboard
to herald the start of the second part of the demonstration, where
the Spirit Of Lelaina came to their 'rescue'.
A
spokesman for BARB, the group that runs the hovercraft, said the
event had been a "great success", adding that "There
was lots of interest in our display, with many onlookers wanting
a close-up look at the two hovercrafts after the event itself.
This further helped to further publicise the vital rescue work
that goes along our coastline."
