Head
shave raises hundreds for Burnham-On-Sea hovercraft charity
Over
£500 was raised for BARB, the Burnham-On-Sea charity that
runs the town's two life-saving hovercrafts, when holidaymakers
at Brean held a sponsored head shave at the weekend.
Members
of
the Diamond Farm Fundraising group held the event on Saturday
afternoon (August 30th) in front of a crowd of onlookers at the
holiday park.
Wendy
Taylor, who had her black locks shaved off, said: "Everyone
really took to this event and gave it strong support. We had a
fantastic response."
"We'd
like to thank all those who took part, plus Boots the chemists
in Burnham for donating the shaving materials, and the owners
of Diamond Farm for their support."
Among
those being shaved were Wendy Taylor, Robert Setchfield, Jess
Collins, Paul Robins, Mark Taylor and Pete Matthews. By Monday,
the amount raised from the event had reached a total of £670.
The
event is one of several to be held over the summer by the Diamond
Farm Fundraising group, which also organised a dog show, several
car boot sales, an auction and a summer Christmas lights display
in aid of BARB.
BARB
Chairman Mark Newman said: "We are very grateful to the team
at Diamond Farm for their continuing support. All money raised
for BARB goes directly into maintaining our life-saving equipment
and training our crew."
