Mark
couple present birthday donation to Burnham hovercraft
A
couple from Mark who both celebrated their 90th birthdays last
month have handed over a cheque to BARB after deciding to receive
charity donations instead of presents.
Arthur
Hill, chairman of Mark Friendship Club for almost 24 years, turned
the grand age on April 4th, and his wife of 64 years, Win, on
April 29th.
The
couple marked the milestones with a party at the village's church
hall on Win's birthday. They declined presents and invited donations
for BARB, the charity that runs Burnham's two rescue hovercrafts,
and the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance. About £460 was
raised and the couple made the sum up to £500, with each
charity receiving half.
The
couple were given a tour of BARB's seafront station and met several
crewmembers before handing over the cheque.
Mark
Newman, Chairman of BARB, said: "We very much thank Arthur
and Win for this generous donation, which will go towards the
high costs of maintaining our hovercrafts and training our volunteer
crews."
