hovercraft joins search for missing Brean child
Burnham-On-Sea's
rescue hovercraft was called out by Coastguards on Saturday evening
(August 30th) to join the search for a six year-old boy who had
been missing for four hours.
The
Light of Elizabeth hovercraft, run by Burnham rescue charity BARB,
scoured the tideline along Brean beach from 5pm amid concern that
the boy had walked onto the mudflats, where the tide was fast
incoming.
"He
had been reported missing by his distraught parents at Brean Leisure
Park, who initially alerted the police. BARB was called out at
5.06pm to help Coastguards with the search," said BARB Chairman
Mark Newman.
Several
miles of coastline between Berrow and Brean Down were searched
with no sign of the missing child. News then came through at 6pm
that the boy had been found safe and well at a nearby caravan
park.
Burnham
Coastguard Officer Steve Bird told Burnham-On-Sea.com: "The
boy was finally found at Northam Farm caravan park at around 6pm,
having walked from the Leisure Park over a mile to his family
caravan."
He
added: "There was a very emotional re-union when the boy
was reunited with his parents."
