Burnham-On-Sea's
MP
visits town's
hovercraft rescue
charity
Burnham-On-Sea's
MP visited BARB, the charity behind the town's life-saving rescue
hovercrafts, on Saturday (October 11th) where he heard about a
busy year for the organisation.
David
Heathcoat-Amory met crewmembers and was given a tour of BARB's
seafront HQ, which is home to The Spirit of Lelaina and Light
Of Elizabeth hovercrafts.
He
was also given an overview of the fourteen incidents that BARB's
hovercrafts and inshore rescue boat have attended so far this
year.
The
MP said: "I continue to be impressed by the work that BARB
does and, clearly, in a recession it is important that people
should not stop giving contributions to charities like this. In
fact, it is even more necessary given the increasing running costs."
BARB
- the Burnham Area Rescue Boat - is a 16-year-old charity run
entirely by volunteers that is funded by donations from the public.
