Using search lights, the Spirit Of Lelaina hovercraft's crew were directed to the edge of the shoreline in complete darkness and driving rain. The hour-long exercise on Wednesday October 20 involved nine of the BARB hovercraft team.
"It went very well and gave the team a good opportunity to conduct a slow and thorough search of the mud in complete darkness and with poor weather conditions." A second night exercise is being planned for early next year when the hovercraft crew will perform another 'rescue' in conjunction with the Coastguard.

hovercraft crew have performed their first full night-time exercise
- simulating the rescue of a casualty stuck in mud on Berrow beach.

chairman Alan Miller said: "This was the first time all the hovercraft
crew and pilots have taken part in such an exercise.
