Hovercraft
pull raises funds for Burnham-On-Sea
rescue service

A
two-mile sponsored pull of Burnhams rescue hovercraft through
the streets of Brean has raised a huge £3,500 for BARB,
the charity behind the life-saving service.
Generous
members of Chevron Country Music Club held a series of fundraising
events during Breans recent Country Music Festival, and
this week handed over a bumper cheque to delighted crew members
at BARB.
During
the pull, the Light Of Elizabeth hovercraft and its tow truck
were tugged along Coast Road by a hardy group of a dozen country
music fans.
Starting
at the Beachcomber Inn, the group made their way past Brean Church
and finished at Brightholme Holiday Park.
Organiser
Barbara Newman said the groups collection tins had been
rattling all along the route.
We
had a great reception from a great many supporters and would like
to thank everyone who donated.
"BARB
is an excellent cause and when it is a local charity people often
tend to give more. The Westerners have raised many thousands of
pounds at Brean over the years and are always very keen to help
local organisations."
BARB
Chairman Alan Miller thanked the group, saying: "This is
the second year the group has supported us - and we are very grateful
to Barbara and all the Country and Western fans who helped and
contributed to this fundraising. It was great to see so many people
having a lot of fun whilst raising much-needed funds for the hovercraft."
All
the money raised will go towards the £30,000 annual cost
of maintaining BARBs two rescue hovercraft and training
its volunteer crew.
