Burnham
hovercraft helps in search for missing Weston fisherman

One
of Burnham-On-Sea's rescue hovercrafts was called to Weston-super-Mare
on Friday (February 8th) to help Coastguards in their search for
a missing fisherman.
The
Light Of Elizabeth hovercraft was launched from Uphill beach with
several Weston Coastguards onboard to conduct a search of more
than 14 miles of mudflats.
It
comes after an angler went missing from near Birnbeck Pier on
Thursday afternoon.
The
hovercraft spent almost two hours performing the search at Weston
and Sand Bay, but no sign of the missing person was found.
Weston
Coastguard Officer Ed Hitchins said: "The hovercraft was
very useful in carrying out a search of the mudflats at low tide
and getting out to several isolated areas which can't be fully
seen from the shore."
Hovercraft
Operations Manager Pete Emery added: "We conducted a full
search of Weston beach, the area around Birnbeck Pier and Sand
Bay with the Coastguards but unfortunately no-one was found."
The
search for the 26-year-old man was called off at 3pm on Friday.
