Spirit Of Lelaina crew scrambled amid fears that child was stuck

The hovercraft was ready to launch

Burnham-On-Sea's Spirit Of Lelaina hovercraft was called out by Coastguards at mid-day on Friday August 19th after a child was reportedly stuck in mud on Brean Beach.

The crew from BARB, the group that runs the hovercraft, were scrambled and the hovercraft was made ready to leave its station on Burnham seafront when news came through from Brean that the casualty, a fourteen year-old autistic child, had been freed from the mud with help from her grandmother.

The hovercraft was therefore stood down shortly after 12:10pm.
