Van pulled from Burnham beach after getting stuck in soft sand

A van was pulled to safety after getting stuck on Burnham-On-Sea beach - the second time in a fortnight that a vehicle has got into difficulties in the area.

The dog warden's vehicle stuck in soft sand on Burnham beachDistrict Council dog warden Tina Kick was patrolling the beach when her van sank in the soft sand at the top of the beach near the town's pier.

Within a matter of seconds, its front wheels would not budge. After trying unsuccessfully to free the vehicle, the council contacted BARB, the organisation that runs Burnham's rescue hovercraft, to pull the vehicle free.

BARB's launch tractor was used to retrieve the vehicle and pull it to the safety of the jetty. "Fortunately, the tide was out at the time so the vehicle and its occupant were never in any danger," added a spokesman.

The incident comes just says after a car owned by two fishermen became stuck on the beach on November 19th. On that occasion, the car was stranded in the sea on a muddy sand bank.
