Burnham
hovercraft flies out to couple amid fears for their safety
Burnham-on-Sea's
training hovercraft was launched on Sunday June 11th amid concern
that two people spotted half a mile out in thick mud near the
town's beach lighthouse could get into difficulty.
The
pair were seen at around 1.20pm and BARB - the organisation that
runs the Burnham hovercraft - launched its smaller training craft
with two crew onboard as a precautionary measure.
"The
tide was at its lowest point and was about to change, so it was
important to get to them quickly and advise them about the danger
they were putting themselves in," said a BARB spokesman.
The
27-year-old male and a 17 year-old female - both from Swindon
- said they were unaware of the risks and quickly returned to
the safety of the beach.
This
latest incident takes the overall tally of people rescued and
helped along the Somerset coastline during the hovercraft groups
first two years of operation to over 90.
