Netball
players spark major mud rescue scare at Berrow

Burnham-On-Sea's
hovercraft, two RNLI lifeboats and an RAF helicopter were called
out on Friday afternoon (June 30th) after seven members of a netball
team briefly became trapped in mud at Berrow beach.
The
rescue services rushed to the incident, shortly after 4.15pm,
after the group of girls - all believed to be in their teens -
were reported by a beach warden to be in difficulty three quarters
of a mile from the shore.
Fortunately,
all seven managed to free themselves as the rescue hovercraft
arrived by road from Burnham-On-Sea.
The
helicopter and lifeboats were stood down en route to the incident,
but given the state of the incoming tide and the treacherous nature
of mud in the area, a Burnham Coastguard spokesman said a rapid
response had been essential.
The
team - from Essex - were staying at a nearby holiday camp in Brean.
