Burnham-On-Sea
hovercraft called to 'suspicious object' on Stert Island

Swansea
Coastguards called out Burnham-On-Sea's rescue hovercraft to
investigate a 'suspicious object' spotted on the shoreline of
Stert Island on Sunday afternoon (January
7th).
Amid
initial concerns that the item could be a life-raft, Coastguards
tasked the BARB hovercraft to investigate.
The
object had earlier been reported to Coastguards by a seafront
walker.
The
hovercraft launched from near Burnham's jetty at 3pm with a crew
of three onboard who found on arrival at Stert that the item was
a large, two-metre container deemed to be harmless.
The
hovercraft and Burnham Coastguards were stood down and the Spirit
Of Lelaina returned across Bridgwater Bay to Burnham.
"This
was a false alarm with good intent," said Burnham Coastguard
Officer Steve Bird.
