Burnham-On-Sea
hovercraft put on standby after Berrow alarm

Burnham-On-Sea Coastguards rushed to Berrow and the town's rescue
hovercraft was put on immediate standby on Friday evening (August
24th) after four children became stuck on the mudflats.
BARB,
the organisation behind the town's two hovercrafts, was asked
to prepare for an immediate launch at 8.52pm when four teenage
girls were reported to be in difficulty on the shoreline.
A walker on the beach raised the alarm by calling 999 and Burnham's
Coastguard Mud Rescue Team was on the scene within minutes.
"Fortunately, the four managed to free themselves from the
mud and scramble back to the safety of the beach as we arrived,"
said a Burnham Coastguard spokesman.
BARB
Senior Pilot Pete Charles added: "This incident once again
demonstrates the danger that the mudflats can pose."
