Burnham-On-Sea
hovercrafts join Coastguard search for mud walkers

Coastguards
called on Burnham-On-Sea's rescue hovercrafts to conduct a search
of local mudflats on Monday afternoon (September 3rd) after two
people were seen wading knee-deep in the mud over one mile from
the shore.
BARB
- the charity that runs the 'Spirit Of Lelaina' and 'Light Of
Elizabeth' hovercrafts - was alerted at 3.36pm after a walker
contacted lifeguards after seeing two people walking in a dangerous
area west of the town's low lighthouse, near Lark Spit.
Both
hovercrafts were launched from Burnham beach at 4pm to perform
a search an area measuring about two square miles.
"A
full search of the area was conducted, but no sign of the walkers
was found," said Burnham Coastguard Clive Savill.
"It
is assumed that the two did not get into difficulty and managed
to walk free before we arrived on scene."
Coastguards
scaled down and ended the search at 5.30pm.
