Children
given sea safety advice by Burnham's
hovercraft crew

The
dangers of the mudflats along Somersets coastline were explained
to a group of Bridgwater schoolchildren when crewmembers from
Burnham's rescue hovercraft took part in a special sea safety
awareness event on Wednesday (February 21st).
Crewmembers Clive Weal and Dave Bailey gave the dozen youngsters
beach safety advice and explained the important role that Burnham's
two rescue hovercrafts play in keeping the coast safe. Afterwards,
the children got to see Burnham's Light Of Elizabeth hovercraft
up close, as pictured here.
The event was held at the Recreation Young People's Centre in
Rhode Lane, Bridgwater as part of a week-long safety event being
organised by Centre Manager Les Riddle. Members of the police,
fire brigade, RNLI and Red Cross were also giving talks.
Hovercraft crew member Dave Bailey said: "The children were
really interested in what we had to say and particularly enjoyed
getting onboard the hovercraft afterwards. It was a very successful
event."
BARB, the charity behind the life-saving rescue service, participates
in various safety awareness events throughout the year in its
ongoing drive to reduce the number of people who get into difficulty
along the Somerset coastline.
