of first training session for Burnham's
new
second hovercraft
Burnham-On-Sea's
new £15,000 second rescue hovercraft was in action for the
first time on Wednesday (August 23rd) during its first training
session.
Two
pilots - David Bailey and Clive Weal - from BARB, the charity
that runs Burnham's rescue hovercraft service, took the 'Light
Of Elizabeth' on its first training flight along the town's beach
and into Bridgwater Bay.
The
three-seater machine has been custom-made for BARB by BBV, the
same manufacturer as the town's existing flagship Spirit Of Lelaina
hovercraft.
The
Light Of Elizabeth is to be used as a training hovercraft, but
will also enable BARB to perform inland rescues along muddy river
banks and lakes where space is restricted.
Wednesday's
training session went to fully to plan and the new craft is now
on active service.
