Cash pours in from big fundraising effort
after man's cancer plight
More
than £2,000 has been raised by local groups in Burnham and
the surrounding area to help a local man fight cancer.
A
cheque for £2,090.35 was handed over to Cancer Research
on Saturday night by big-hearted supporters who have held a series
of events in recent weeks after hearing about the plight of a
20-year-old from West Huntspill.
The
man, who used to play for Berrow Football Club, was diagnosed with
cancer last year - much to the shock of his family and friends.
In
recent weeks, a skittles event has been held at Burnham's Lighthouse
Inn, a fundraising event has been held at West Huntspill FC, a
golf day was held by Mordanians FC in Bridgwater, and Berrow FC's
team have shaved their heads.
David
May, who is pictured above front left holding the cheque, is the
grateful father of the man.
He
told Burnham-On-Sea.com that he and his family have been "overwhelmed"
by the support. "It's
superb to see the community come together like this - we're just
delighted to see so much has been rasied," he said.
The
cheque was handed over to Cancer Research at Burnham's Lighthouse
Inn on Saturday evening.
