Coastguards alerted after family gets lost in darkness on Brean
Down
Coastguards
from Burnham-On-Sea were called to Brean Down late on Saturday
night (April 22nd) after a family of four became lost while walking
in darkness.
A
lady raised the alarm at 9.30pm after realising that she and three
young children were unable to find their way off the Down.
"They
had strayed off the footpath and couldn't find their way to the
either of the two paths down from the top," said Coastguard
Officer Steve Bird.
"They
ended up at the quarry end of the Down and called 999 for assistance.
The lady was understandably concerned."
A
nearby beach warden was also alerted at the same time and quickly
came to their aid, reaching them at just before 10pm. Coastguards
also met them and confirmed they were safe and unhurt.
