Three
walkers spark mudflats alert for Coastguards at Brean

Coastguards
and a rescue hovercraft from Burnham-On-Sea were sent to Brean
on Tuesday evening (May 13th) after a walker reported three youngsters
in difficulty on the mudflats.
The
teams were called to the beach opposite Pontins holiday camp at
8.10pm after a walker spotted three teenagers wading "knee-deep"
in mud.
Fortunately,
the youngsters, who were all local, were able to walk from the
mud themselves.
Steve
Bird, Burnham Coastguard Station Officer, said: "This was
a false alarm with good intent."
"We
always encourage anyone who has concerns about the welfare of
others along our coastline to dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
The mudflats can be very dangerous."
The
Spirit of Lelaina rescue hovercraft, operated by Burnham charity
BARB, was stood down en route to the incident.
