Burnham-On-Sea Coastguards praised for flood relief efforts
A
team of Burnham-On-Sea Coastguards who helped with flood relief
work in Gloucestershire during the summer has been formally thanked
by the UK's Chief Coastguard.
The
Burnham team helped to
provide much-needed water supplies to flood-affected communities
throughout
Gloucester, Cheltenham and Tewkesbury after torrential rain caused
serious flooding during July.
The
Burnham team - comprising Station Officer Steve Bird, Dave Ilsley,
Nigel Smith, Craig Groves, Robin Hewlett, Dave Weland, and Clive
Savill - were tasked with delivering thousands of water bottles
over several days.
Chief
Coastguard Peter Dymond has praised the team in a letter to them
- and other Coastguard officers across the region. "Thank
you very much for your superb response during the major flooding
in Gloucestershire," he says. "Your actions have probably
done more than anything else in recent times to raise the profile
of HM Coastguard and put the service on the map as a Category
1 responder under the Civil Contingencies Act."
