Man
found after RAF helicopter joins Burnham Coastguards in search
An
RAF helicopter joined a team of Burnham-On-Sea Coastguards in
searching for a missing man on
Brean
beach on Monday evening (December 22nd).
This
distinctive yellow helicopter from Chivenor in Devon was called
in by Coastguards at 7.30pm to help in the search for a person
said to be in a distressed state on the beach.
"A
resident called 999 after hearing cries for help," Burnham
Coastguard Officer Steve Bird explained to Burnham-On-Sea.com.
"We
quickly found the man, who was in his mid-twenties and in a distressed
state. We also needed to establish whether there were any other
casualties and since the helicopter was already in the area, it
performed a 20-minute search of the beach and mud using thermal
imaging equipment, along with two teams of Burnham Coastguards,"
he added.
Mr
Bird praised the resident for dialling 999 and asking for the
Coastguard when he heard the cries for help. "The resident
did the right thing in alterting us," he said.
