Missing
kite surfer found in Wales after Coastguard
search at Brean
Coastguards
from Burnham-On-Sea were among the rescue teams searching for
a missing kite surfer in the sea near Brean Down on Tuesday evening
(April 7th).
An RAF helicopter from Chivenor in Devon plus lifeboats from Penarth
and Weston were called out to join the search for the missing
man north of Brean Down.
A
helicopter arrived on scene at around 8.30pm to perform sweeps
of the Bristol Channel, almost two hours after the search began.
The
man was eventually found unharmed at Barry in South Wales after
being blown off course in an attempt to cross the Bristol Channel.
Burnham
Coastguard Dave Welland told Burnham-On-Sea.com: "He was
found safe and well in Barry. He'd started off at Weston and told
several friends he intended to surf across the channel and ended
up in Barry. He is an experienced kite surfer and was well equipped
and kitted out, but under-estimated the power of the wind."
