Burnham-On-Sea
lifeboat crew retrieves drifting mooring raft

A
drifting raft in Bridgwater Bay sparked a call-out for Burnham-On-Sea
Coastguards and a lifeboat crew on Monday morning (February 19th).
The
object, pictured, was reported adrift at 9.10am by a member of
the public who saw it slowly drifting out of the bay with the
falling tide.
Coastguards
were called to investigate and, using binoculars, they quickly
identified the object as a mooring raft used by Burnham-On-Sea
Sailing Club which had been attacked by vandals.
Coastguards
called on the RNLI to help retrieve the object and bring it back
to the safety of the town's beach.
The
crew of Puffin located the mooring raft just north west
of Stert Island and towed it to the beach adjacent to the town's
jetty.
Sailing
Club spokesman Graham Wills told Burnham-On-Sea.com: "The
raft had been beached, adjacent to the sailing club jetty in the
River Brue, for repairs. Some mindless vandals had apparently
undone the mooring ropes, allowing it to come adrift at high water."
Burnham
RNLI Press Officer Mike Lang added: "The mooring raft is
solidly built, and would have been a hazard to shipping. Our volunteer
crewmembers were pleased to able to help."
