Burnham Coastguards investigate 'mystery' object on Stert Island

Burnham-On-Sea
Coastguards were called out to investigate a mystery object on
Stert Island on Saturday afternoon (March 22nd).
Several
walkers along Burnham seafront reported seeing the large white
object, which appeared to be the size and shape of an upturned
boat, as circled in the photo below.
It
was spotted on the mudflats at the northern end of Stert, about
two miles from the shore.
Coastguards
in Swansea tasked the Burnham team with investigating.
They
drove along the beach to get a closer look and, using binoculars,
concluded it was probably a piece of a pontoon that had broken
free during storms earlier this month.
Burnham
Coastguard Officer Steve Bird said: "We always encourage
people to contact us if they spot suspicious objects or are concerned
about anyone being in difficulty."
