Thousands watch fireworks display at Burnham-On-Sea

Thousands of onlookers packed the the seafront at Burnham on Sunday night (November 7th, 2004) to watch the town's popular annual fireworks display.

The popular display - which takes place every November during the Carnival weekend - lasted 25 minutes and was watched by record crowds along The Esplanade.

The weather stayed fine and dry for the event, which is widely regarded as one of the West Country's leading seaside fireworks displays.

The fireworks were let off to the sound of a wide range of classical music broadcast through a speaker system along the seafront.

One onlooker told Burnham-On-Sea.com: "It was a fantastic display - one of the best ever. We loved every minute of it - and the kids were incredibly excited. It's just a shame that the tide was isn't in this year."

The event is sponsored by both Sedgemoor District Council and Burnham and Highbridge Town Council.

Later in the evening, a Carnival / Remembrance Day Band concert was held by the Burnham and Highbridge Band in The Princess.

Orchard FM's roadshow was in attendance on the seafront, providing music to the crowds. A charity collection was made by the Burnham-On-Sea Rotary Club.
