Burnham-On-Sea
angler catches town's heaviest Cod for two years

A
local fisherman has
caught the heaviest Cod to be landed off the coast of Burnham-On-Sea
for at least two years.
Tom
Adams, a semi-retired stonemason from Axbridge, reeled in the
huge 26lb 4oz cod, pictured above, while fishing in a charter
boat near Hinkley Point.
Using
a bait of lugworms and squid, he caught the monster meal at Gore
Bell, between Hinkley Point and the main buoy, just over a week
ago on December 29th.
"Tom
suffers with arthritis in both hands and had a real tussle on
his hands for what seemed an absolute age," said Dave Saunders,
owner of the Burnham-based charter boat Kelly's Hero, from which
the catch was made.
"However,
he has now accomplished his personal best fish to date and this
was also a new boat record for Kelly's Hero."
The
huge fish was caught on December 29th from a mark five miles west
of Burnham-On-Sea. It took Tom's bait one hour before low water
and is the biggest catch in the area for at least two years.
The
fish was weighed by Dick Shepherd of Burnham-On-Sea Small Boat
Association using certified scales.
The
news comes despite a poor start to the cod fishing season in Burnham
with most anglers reporting poor catches.
It's
not all been bad news, though. Burnham-On-Sea.com reported on
January 8th how two
large Thornback Rays had been caught in the waters off Burnham.
