Halifax Building Society to move into Burnham
High Street
The
Halifax Building Society is to open a new branch in Burnham-On-Sea
High Street in January 2006 when an existing building society
closes.
The
Birmingham Midshires branch at 56 The High Street (pictured) is
to close and the Halifax is to open a full branch in its place.
The
news comes as Birmingham Midshires accounced this week that ten
branches are to close across the West country after the society
confirmed that it is ending its high street presence.
The
move by owner HBoS, which acquired the business in 1999, will
shut a total of 48 sites and see another 19 rebranded as Halifax
outlets.
Branches
in Burnham-On-Sea and Newton Abbot will be reopened as Halifax
while closures will affect Bridgwater, Clevedon, Taunton, Weston-super-Mare,
Yeovil, Bristol, Exeter and Plymouth.
It
is more good news for Burnham High Street - coming only days after
another big retail name, Specsavers, opened near the Somerset
& Dorset pub.
It
is not yet known whether the Halifax will continue to offer mortgages
through Abbott and Frost estate agents in nearby College Street.
