Appeal for entries for Burnham-On-Sea's
2005 Horticultural Show
Gardeners,
growers, cooks, handicraft hobbyists and amateur photographers
alike are being invited to take part in Burnham-On-Sea & District
Horticultural Society's 38th annual show.
 The
event will be held for the second year running at Sanders GardenWorld
at Brent Knoll on Saturday August 13 and Sunday August 14.
There
are 10 sections and 129 classes to be entered with 24 cups, five
shields, two medals, one trophy, one tankard and one rose bowl
to be won.
The
Society's Treasurer, Les Wallis, said: "We're expecting a
good turn out in all sections and classes but are still keen to
make sure as many people as possible get involved with the show
and ensure it is a great success. The
Society is always keen to hear from people who would like to get
involved and to join us."
The
sections in which competitors are invited to enter include floral
art, junior, domestic, handicraft, photography, pot plants, flowers,
wines, fruit and vegetables.
Classes
include floral displays using the themes of 'Household Treasures'
and 'Nature's Colours', a chance for children, aged up to 16-years-old,
to enter vegetable animals and handicrafts, and the opportunity
for the area's cooks to serve up scones, jam tarts, Victoria sponges
and chutneys to tickle the judges taste buds.
Visitors
to the show will also be able to see entries of hand knitted soft
toys, cushion covers, painting, photographs and red and white
homemade wine.
Entrants
in the Burnham Allotment Society sponsored classes will be showing
off what they hope will be the heaviest home-grown onions and
potatoes in the area, and the longest runner beans.
Garden
centre Managing Director, Peter Burks, explained: "We're
delighted to have this prestigious horticultural, cooking and
craft-based event on site again this year. It looks set to be
a wonderful event, which we are glad to support."
"I
understand from the organisers that the event was getting expensive
to run and because we have agreed to hold it at the garden centre
for free, we have helped secure its future."
The
show is open to the public on Saturday August 13 from 1pm until
6pm and on Sunday August 14 from 10am until 4pm. The prize-giving
and awards presentation ceremony will be held at 3pm on the Sunday.
Admission to the event is free.
