Burnham-On-Sea paralympic swimmer Anthony Stephens is making final preparations to compete in December’s World Swimming Championships.
The 20 year-old, pictured, told Burnham-On-Sea.com this week he is “optimistic” of success at the Championships, which are set to be held in Durban between December 2nd and 8th.
“I’ve been out of action for almost a year and a half with a shoulder injury, but the treatment has been successful and I’m really looking forward to taking part in the International Paralympic Committee’s World Championships,” he said.
Former King Alfred School pupil Anthony brought back one silver and three bronze medals from the Paralympic games in Athens in 2004.
He has been in training in recent months to try and ensure he is on top form for December’s competition.
“Having won the medals in Athens two years ago, I’m still high in the overall rankings and have a good chance of winning,” he added.
“I just don’t know who I will be up against yet, though, and know will be very competitive.”
Anthony was born with no legs and just one fully developed arm, but has not let this get in his way – he has been swimming from the age of three and breaking records since he was 10.
