Asda was formally given the go-ahead by planners to build its huge new proposed supermarket in Highbridge on Tuesday, June 6th.

As reported by Burnham-On-Sea.com last year, the store is planned to be built on land formerly used by the Woodberry and Haines furniture company with more than 270 car parking spaces plus a seperate public car park with 24 spaces.

On Tuesday, the plans went before Sedgemoor District Council’s Development Control Committee who gave it the thumbs-up.

The proposal had need to be discussed in detail by the committee because it is classed as a large and important development.
