Final
obstacle standing in the way of Highbridge Asda store is removed

Planners
have this week removed the final obstacle standing in the way
of supermarket giant Asda opening a huge new 40,000 square foot
store in Highbridge, we can reveal.

PLACED ON ASDA: |
Two
conditions have been placed on the Highbridge supermarket
by planners:
1.
The store shall not be open to the public until all
the boundary enclosures as shown on plans have been constructed
in their entirety and completed in all respects.
Reason:
In the interests of visual amenity and to protect the privacy
and residential amenity of neighbouring homes.
2.
The foodstore shall not open to the public until such
time as the site has been landscaped in its entirety in
accordance with the detailed plans and specifications on
the approved plans.
Reason:
In the interests of visual amenity and to protect the privacy
and residential amenity of neighbouring homes.

Asda
wanted to vary its original planning application to alter boundary
enclosures and landscaping at the site at Springfield Road - and
planners this week gave it the go-ahead, providing that several
conditions are met.
The
supermarket requested for conditions forcing it to render both
sides of a wall on the Springfield Road site to be altered, saying
it only has access to one part of it. It also wanted to avoid
removing a hedge.
While
giving the store a green light, district planners also placed
two conditions on the supermarket, requiring that the store will
not open until the boundary enclosures have been completed. The
full text of the conditions is shown on the right.
As
previously reported by Burnham-On-Sea.com, Asda plans to open
its new 40,000 sq ft supermarket at the site next year. The huge
store will boast 273 customer car parking spaces and a further
24 spaces for general use by the public.
