Boost
for Burnham-On-Sea bus travellers as services increase
Town
councillors have this week welcomed plans by Somerset County Council
to improve bus services in Burnham-On-Sea.
Mark
Pedlar, Passenger Transport Group manager at the county council,
revealed that a review of all bus services is underway.
And
despite fears that bus services in the town could be cut back,
the proposed timetable sees a number of positive changes.
"We
note with approval the considerable improvements to the Burnham
to Wells and Wookey Hole service, which will comprise seven services
daily compared to the current five," said Burnham-On-Sea
town councillor Chris Williams.
"Six
of the services will be extended from and to Pier Street, via
Love Lane, Tescos and Ben Traver's Way."
He
added: "We are also pleased to see the reinstatement of the
evening Weston to Bridgwater service, and the summer-only evening
service of additional journeys for the Weston to Highbridge route."
"We
note that minor alterations are envisaged for the Highbridge to
Berrow service and would like to be fully involved and consulted
in any changes."
The news came as Burnham town councillors called on the County
Council to introduce an all-day bus travel card in our area, from
Whitsun to September, when road congestion caused by an influx
of visitors is at is height.
