Sons
collect Civic Award after Burnham-On-Sea man's death

The
sons of a Burnham-On-Sea man who has died just days before he
was to receive a Civic Award have this week collected the award
on his behalf.
On
Monday evening, Tim and Alan Heal received the Civic Award certificate,
medal and citation that Burnham Mayor Eric Gill was due to present
to Hector, 88, this Sunday (September 10th).
Tim
told Burnham-On-Sea.com: "Very sadly, Hector passed away
last Thursday after a period of ill health. He would have been
extremely proud to have received this award."
Mr
Hector Heal had been put forward for the Civic Award in recognition
of his 30 years service to the Berrow Road Community Centre, holding
over time the position of Treasurer, Secretary and Warden, the
last few years as Treasurer.
He
oversaw the maintenance and smooth running of the centre through
hard times and good and was always very prudent with income, making
sure the most urgent priority was the maintenance of the building.
Mr Heal retired in January this year due to ill health.
Mr
Gill presented the certificate,
medal and citation to Tim at the start of Monday's town council
meeting.
