Burnham-On-Sea
medical fundraising group celebrates its 20th year
A
group of Burnham-On-Sea fundraisers are celebrating the
20th year of their organisation, during which time they have raised
a mammoth £150,000 for the purchase of medical equipment
in the town.
The
Community Medical Equipment Fund has raised the huge sum since
it was formed in 1986 and this week members Dr Roger Wildbore,
Carol Davies, Penny Bull and Tom Ashton (pictured) gathered to
mark the milestone.
The
group was previously known as the Burnham and Highbridge District
Medical Fund and provides medical equipment to local patients.
Donations have come from bereaved relatives and fundraising events
throughout the area.
"A
great deal of these purchases have enabled many patients to continue
to lead a normal life and not spend many hours or days in hospital,"
said member Tom Ashton.
"These
are items that cannot be funded on the NHS and because of their
cost, cannot be readily afforded by the majority of people who
require them."
