Fire
crews tackle huge barn blaze on the outskirts of Burnham-On-Sea

Fire
crews from across Somerset tackled a huge blaze on the outskirts
of Burnham-On-Sea in the early hours of Sunday (September 24th).
The
fire service received numerous calls from the public at 1am alerting
them to a fire at Church Road in East Huntspill. On
arrival, they found two large five-bay barns, containing 250 tons
of hay, well alight.
Crews
from Burnham, Bridgwater, Cheddar, Taunton and Street rushed to
the scene, together with specialist appliances from Street and
Bridgwater.
A
spokesman told Burnham-On-sea.com: "Crews used five main jets
and a water wall to protect surrounding properties while the contents
were allowed to burn out."
He
added that the barns had been severely damaged by fire and that
the cause was "suspicious." Investigations are continuing.
