A young puppy has been reunited with its Burnham-On-Sea family six weeks after being stolen from their garden.

Stella, a 12-week-old female Staffordshire Bull Terrier, was returned to her “overjoyed” owner, Mark Knight of Winchester Road (pictured), on Tuesday (August 15th) after being found in Weston-super-Mare.

Mark told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “A dog warden came across her with another dog walking the streets of Weston’s Bournville estate.”

“He picked her up and it’s only because she’s been electronically chipped with an ID tag that he’s been able to trace her back to us in Burnham.”

“We got a call from the dog warden at 1.30pm and she was back in our hands shortly afterwards. We’re all so delighted to have her back.”

“We really thought we’d lost her. It’s wonderful news, we’re all absolutely ecstatic! It’s all a dream come true.”

Mark said Stella had been checked over by a vet who had given her a clean bill of health. “She’s got a few scratches around her ears where she’s had a thick collar, but the vet said she’s otherwise in a good condition.”

It is likely to remain a mystery just how Stella got to Weston, and the family remains convinced that someone stole her from their garden in July by clambering over an eight foot high garden fence.

“We think someone grabbed her by the collar – a neighbour had heard an animal screaming at around the same time – and then took her away in a red coloured car,” he said.

But all that’s now a distant memory and Mark’s father, Steve, said the family is “totally over the moon” to get their puppy back.
