Concern grows for missing man who jumped into River Parrett

-

Police are growing increasingly concerned for the safety of a man who is believed to have jumped into the River Parrett on Thursday (November 2nd).

At around 11.30am on Thursday a member of the public reported seeing the man jumping from Somerset Bridge into the fast-flowing river. An extensive search was carried out by police throughout Thursday which involved especially trained search officers, district units and the force helicopter using thermal imaging equipment.

Fire crews and Coastguards were also involved in the search operation, but it is thought the man may have floated quickly towards the Bristol Channel, possibly through the estuary at Burnham-On-Sea (pictured above).

The missing man was white, in his early 20s, 5ft 10ins tall, with very tightly cut blond hair. He was last seen wearing a distinctive red and white leather motorcycle jacket.

Police are keen to speak to anyone who may have seen the man or may know his identity. No one matching his description has been reported missing to police and officers would also like to speak to anyone who may be concerned for a missing person’s welfare.

Anyone who can help is asked to contact police on 0845 4567000.
