One person has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving after a car crash in Burnham-On-Sea early on Monday morning, May 1st.

A street lighting column was damaged during the accidentA white Ford Fiesta, with three people inside, ploughed into a street lighting column on the Tesco roundabout at the junction of Love Lane just after 6.40am.

Police officers rushed to the scene and the driver was given a breath test.

A force spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The driver, who is a male in his 20s, was positively tested and was taken into custody.”

He added that there had been no injuries arising from the accident, which involved just the one vehicle.

Burnham-On-Sea fire brigade was also called to the scene as a precaution. The police spokesman added that the highways authority had been informed about damage to the street lighting column.
