Motorists faced long delays around Burnham-On-Sea on Friday evening, February 17th, following an accident on the M5 motorway involving a lorry.

Oil was spilt over two lanes of the M5 after the vehicle crashed into the central barrier near junction 23 at Pawlett.

Traffic quickly backed up more than four miles to the Burnham-On-Sea junction and motorists faced delays of up to 50 minutes.

As many drivers left the motorway at junction 22 at Burnham, queues of slow-moving traffic also built up along the southbound A38 through Edithmead and Highbridge.

The Highways Agency carried out repairs to the central barrier and the motorway was cleared at around 7.30pm.
