A quieter, greener way to patrol the streets of Burnham and Highbridge

-

Police officers in Burnham and Highbridge are getting on their bikes to tackle crime with the introduction of two new electric mopeds.

The vehicles have been introduced in the towns to help officers patrol the streets more effectively than with motorbikes.

Highbridge Community Beat Manager Gwilym Starks, pictured right with one of the new mopeds, told Burnham-On-Sea.com the vehicles have multiple benefits.

“There are no fuel costs so they’re far cheaper to run than conventional motorbikes. Also, there are no emissions so the vehicles are better for the environment, and because they’re so small we can travel along narrow cycle tracks when needed.”

He added that mopeds are also quieter, making them ideal for night-time patrols. The vehicles have been sponsored by Knightstone Housing Association. V&J Honda have provided clothing.
