Burnham-On-Sea
police
appeal for information after attack on teenagers
Burnham-On-Sea
police have appealed for witnesses to come forward after a 14-year-old
boy and his friend were the victims of a frightening attack by
a gang of men in the town over the weekend.
Matthew
Lewis, 14, has been left with bruises and scratches on his face
and neck after the attack on Saturday evening at Enmore Close.
He
and a group of friends were walking in the area when a gang of
four men - who police believe were in their 20s - attacked the
boys.
Talking
to Burnham-On-Sea.com, Matthew said: "The men ran out of
Enmore Close and started shouting at us."
"One
of them then grabbed me, pulled me down and stood on my head."
"He
told me that unless I stopped throwing sticks at his sister's
windows he would kill me. He then started counting down."
"I
was shaking with fear - it was horrible. I didn't have a clue
what was happening. We hadn't been throwing anything at anyone's
house."
The
men fled after several minutes and Burnham police were called.
A search of the area was carried out, but the men had fled the
scene (shown on the map below).
Matthew's
mother, Elaine, said the whole incident had been "completely
shocking" and that Matthew and his friends had been "petrified"
by the incident.
"He and his friends hadn't been in Enmore Close all day,
so they must have been mistaken for someone else - but that's
no excuse for what happened."
"You
just don't expect things like this to happen in a quiet town like
Burnham."
Police
would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident or has
information to help with their enquiries.
You
can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. You do not have to give
your name and could receive a reward.
